About Us

PAPN is an organization of professional Psychiatric Mental Health Advanced Practice Registered Nurses that provides the education, infrastructure, collaborative relationships and commitment to fulfill our practice and is dedicated to meeting current and future mental health needs with patient-centered and safe mental health care.

The organization is in it’s 6th year and we are 81 members strong and growing. The membership is very excited about the accomplishments under past leadership and look forward to continuing the work that was started.

PAPN goals for 2017-2018 are to continue to:

  • Provide a forum for advanced practice psychiatric nurses to exchanged ideas and foster networking.
  • Promote excellence in clinical practice through peer education and consultation.
  • Support the development of advanced practice psychiatric nurses in and around Houston.

These goals align completely with the Institute of Medicine's Report on the the Future o f Nursing's position that the advancement of a successful national health care agenda requires that nurses function to the full extent of the scope of their practice including full prescriptive authority.

PAPN will continue to offer sponsored meetings however, we will be increasing the number of non-sponsored meetings so that the members have an opportunity to share practice experiences and concerns. The Board of Directors will continue to consider new directions and explore strategic opportunities as we plan for both short and long term possibilities. The board will meet several times to plan for the upcoming year and we welcome your suggestions and input.
